Walking Sticks - A Money Making Hobby
Carving walking sticks wasn't meant to be a money-making hobby for me. I sometimes made them when backpacking, and I had always enjoyed taking my pocket knife to a piece of wood to see what I could make. I just hadn't thought of doing anything more with the hobby. One summer, when my wife Ana and I briefly got into the flea market business, I noticed the occasional vendor selling walking sticks. Offline Advertising Tips
Since most of us are always online and our business is online, we often forget the importance of advertising our business offline. Print advertising can be one of the best forms of advertising for your buck. Why? Well, with print advertising it's in the form of hard copy and is always in view of your potential customers. Thats just one small example. Think about your daily newspaper...try hiding that in your email
Many studies have shown that ONLY about 5-10% of ALL new jobs are posted, whether it's in the newspaper or over the Internet.

The remaining 90-95 percent are "posted" per se, by word of mouth. Therefore, NETWORKING is an extremely important tool to get you closer to that fabulous job you've always wanted!

Below are 15 extremely useful points that you must keep in mind, in order to successfully network anytime, anywhere!

    - First and foremost, Take the initiative! Get out there in the world! Things don't just happen-you MAKE them happen!

    - Know how to market yourself! Always carry a resume, card, or anything else you might have to show others your talent or skills -with you at all times. You never know when you'll be at the right place at the right time and meet your ultimate lead.

    - By all means, do NOT rely on networking as the ONLY means of reaching your goals.

    - Always be completely honest with others. Nobody likes, and no one wants to help a less than upfront individual.

    - Having a sense of entitlement is never attractive. Please don't expect too much from others. Nobody owes you anything. They'll help if they want to help, but only YOU can always help you.

    - Be Patient. Results can come when you least expect them, and they may take time to get to you.

    - Don't mix business with pleasure. This will only create problems you don't necessarily need nor want.

    - Learn to ask the following question: So…."What do you do?" with ease ,and a friendly smile, everywhere you go. However, also think before you network. Sometimes it's very appropriate, but sometimes it isn't.

    - Always be sure to follow up on ANY lead that's thrown your way. Something you might think is trivial or unimportant may just be the big break you've been waiting for!

    - Don't be a user. Yes, that's right-a user. You wouldn't like it if someone only contacted you when they needed something, or were desperate, so don't do the same to others. Keep up with your contacts. You never know when one of your contacts will come through for you.

-Keep taking classes or quick courses to help you improve your public speaking, social skills, and writing skills. Or any other type of skills you might need to further yourself in your career choice. Also, join networking clubs for the field you're in.

    - Find out about any networking events that may be going on and GO to them. Dress appropriately and once you're there, don't talk too much, or say too little. You want people to think of you as smart and very capable . And ALWAYS go prepared with---( like I said before), resume, card, etc. or you might miss your chance to get a great lead!
