    Fat Day
The other day I felt fat and flabby.  I was having a “fat” day.  My stomach felt bigger than normal, and I felt puffy.  My legs jiggled and seemed to spread to the corners of the earth when I sat down.  I must have eaten too much or exercised too little.  I must have been having a hormonal moment.  Discipline must have failed me.  I felt like my work wasn’t working.  I must be losing my focus.  Oh no, I’ll never get fit.  Why keep trying?  But wait!  I hadn’t lost focus, except i

    Formal Report
A formal report collects and interprets data and reports information. It may, in the course of doing these tasks, include an analysis and make recommendations for a course of action.Reports are used to inform, analyze, and recommend. They are usually written in indirect order. These reports are often very complex and may even be produced in book volume. In the business setting, an informal report is used for internal distribution, while the formal report is used for external
    Be daring and be different!

As a former Yellow Page consultant for 25 years, I would recommend you take the time to figure out what makes you different from your competition and work from that base. After all, how else is Mrs. Jones going to choose from the hundreds of plumbers in the directory?

Begin in the beginning. That’s not as easy as it sounds. Build your ad from the headline on down. It’s the place most users will see first. So conceive a headline that takes you out of the ordinary.

Sticking with “Plumbing,” I’ve seen the same headlines year after year:

“Quality Emergency Service.” “Save Money.” “Complete Services.” Need a Good Plumber? Call Us.”

Okay, let’s break these down, in order.

Shouldn’t the user expect “Quality?” And what plumber doesn’t handle emergencies?

Isn’t every broken pipe an emergency?

No, I don’t want to “Save Money. I want to spend more. Dumb.

Doesn’t anyone offer “Incomplete Services” anymore? Also dumb.

And do I “need a good plumber.” Why else am I looking under “Plumbing” in the first place? Did I think this was the “Pizza” heading?

AD:Tech The 10th Annual is Over - What Was In It For Main Street?
There were over 12,000 individuals from all over the place pre-registered for the conference. The hotel was packed like I haven't seen it since 1999.On the first floor of the Hilton on 6th Avenue there is a bar with a huge seating area of tables and curved couches. It doesn't open until 5-6 in the evening, during the day people use it as a place to sit while they are waiting for something or just killing time. There are always 2-3 tables in use.During Ad:Tech every seat was

    Working Smarter Not Harder
Growing up we where all told in order to make it in life that you must go out there and work hard for everything you want in life. The harder you work the more you will succeed. Is this really that true though anymore? Now a day people seem to work harder then ever before, and still come up empty handed. So is working harder really getting us to where we want to be at in life? More then likely the only place its getting you is laying on our bed with a bad back or a huge headache. T

Keeping Abreast Of Your Domain ...Updates and Keeping Up With It All
Another major complaint that most business owners have is all the reading they need to do to keep abreast of what is happening in their business area. Again time management and organization can be a tremendous help. Be sure to put your reading times in your daily schedule. Schedule a half hour in the morning to read at least one article in a magazine. While having lunch, read updates or small bulletins. Make a folder in your e-mail program and organize the arti

    Globe Your Business
and the world is yours…In America today, our population flirts with a population of 300 million. There are over 150 nations represented in that 300 million. Whether by means of divorce or the exercise of choice, women are rapidly entering and advancing in the workplace. Senior citizens account for approximately 25 percent of the population, many of whom continue to work and be active and productive. Teenagers and young adults account for over 25 percent of our population and are c

So you’re a plumber, not an ad-man. What kind of headline could you come up with that every other plumber can’t offer? Sure it’s tough, but no one said marketing was easy. It’s takes a creative touch and some adventure. Look at advertising in a different way. How does it solve a problem? That’s why Mrs. Jones grabbed the directory in the first place. She had a problem: a leaky pipe, Not you have to solve it for her. How? By telling her exactly what you intent to do. That’s the solution.

Huh? What did I say? Well, what does a plumber do? No, not the “Fast Service” stuff. We already beat that to death. What do you really do? You fix leaks. Okay, that’s not the headline I had in mind. You also get the water going again. Hmm. So you think outside the box. “Water Your Expectations?” Now that’s different, or, “Real Men Wear Booties! (to Protect Your Floors)” Get the idea? “Draining Pipes, Not Wallets.” That’s a feature and benefit story. “
