Action Learning - Effective Listening Many internet websites have guarantees, but very few in my experience will actually standby the guarantee but I will talk about that more in element number 10.Action learning provides a structured approach to making progress on difficult and sometimes emotive issues. Taking part in an action learning set can help improve skills vital to leading a business forward, namely:Being objective and making decisionsImproving listening and questioningCreating the climate for purposeful discussionAn action learning set normally numbers between 5 and 7, and at the start is facilitated to give the group a good foundation. Each member of the group gets a period of time to explain their issue, and then gets questioned by the rest of the group. Each member of the group can take a turn. A good set has trust between the members, a good set of ground rules that have been adopted, and individuals learn to ask the right questions so that another member of the group can make good progress. They probably learn this from each other.Action research is quite similar. Using similar questioning and listening techniques it may be possible to make progress on an issue that has been difficult to resolve. Again the key is asking the right question, and exposing yourself to an answer that may be uncomfortable.Within action learning having the right sort of climate is important. Trust is key to this. For instance if you were having a meeting and the following signals were given, how would you feel?1.‘I’m judging you’2.‘I’m in charge’3.‘I can manipulate you’4.‘I don’t give a damn about you’5.‘I’m superior to you’6.‘My mind is made up. Nothing you can say will alter it’(Gibb, J, (1961). Defensive communication. Journal of Communication, 11, 141-148)One of the problems of considering j One other element about a guarantee is to make it believable. If it is not belie Co-Branding and Your Company The Internet has become a haven for crooks, pushers, thieves, and many more terms I can not think of at this exact moment in time and it is no wonder that many people who use the Internet have become wary of doing business online. Personally, I do not blame them; however that does not help those of us who want to provide a product or service to the billions of people surfing the net so I have devised a list of ten elements you should have on your website that will help build credibility with those people who are visiting your site.If promotional product marketing is a big part of your campaign, it means it's the right time for you to think about co-branding. In essence, co-branding is putting your brand name juxtapose to a more popularly branded promotional product. For instance, instead of just giving away a "generic shirt" with your logo on it, you could place your name on an Adidas, an Izod or a Nike shirt.Co-branding is a great way to boost brand recognition. Especially true for newer companies, riding on the existing market share of the bigger brands gives your brand a better fighting chance. The alliance between two brands can also offer clients better value. Long established brand items are often of better quality than generic ones. As such, clients get more out of a co-branded promotional item than they would with one that isn't. As an off-shoot of this, the credibility of the established brand is transferred onto yours. Is it really worth it?A classic example of successful co-branding is the LiveSTRONG(TM) baller bands, the Lance Armstrong-Nike union created a new breed of promotional marketing unlike any other. What started as a simple fund raising tool for the Lance Armstrong Foundation is now a fashion statement, a symbol for a good cause, a bearer of hope and of course a great marketing tool.Today, it has gone far beyond its original purpose of raising enough money and awareness to support the fight against cancer. The original $5million goal has been surpassed more than five times over.In addition, it has become such an iconic piece that it is now being re-sold everywhere at inflated prices. Even non-traditional channels like eBay are carrying the produ I am quite sure you will know some of these ten on-page elements but there are others you may have thought about but never done anything about. So let us begin … #1 - Have a Clear Guarantee Every Internet marketing guru or business coach will tell you that you must have a clear guarantee. Essentially a guarantee is simply a document that states to the customer that you standby your product or you will give the customer their money back. Many internet websites have guarantees, but very few in my experience will actually standby the guarantee but I will talk about that more in element number 10. One other element about a guarantee is to make it believable. If it is not believ Three Brand Identity Myths That Will Bring Your Business Down ot blame them; however that does not help those of us who want to provide a product or service to the billions of people surfing the net so I have devised a list of ten elements you should have on your website that will help build credibility with those people who are visiting your site.To begin, let’s define “Brand Identity,” which is the combination of consistent visual elements that are used in your marketing materials. A basic Brand Identity Kit consists of a logo, business card, letterhead, and envelope. It can be extended to include a website, brochure, folder, flyer, or any other professionally designed pieces.Having a Brand Identity is incredibly important to your business’s success. However, many business owners have some misconceptions about brand identities that can damage their businesses, and I’ve discussed those below:My cousin can design my brand identity (logo, website, and marketing materials) There are some very significant areas of your business that should be left to the professionals.First of all, while your cousin may have been “great in art class,” this doesn’t mean that they have the knowledge and expertise required to create great graphic designs. Designing a logo, business card, or website is much different than painting a picture or making a collage. You must make a brand logo scalable, meaningful, and symbolic. See my article on the “9 Keys to an Effective Logo” for more information on what factors to consider when creating a great logo.Second, by having a professional designer on your business marketing team, your projects will be a top priority. I have many potential clients who start their designs with a friend or relative, who are then “put on the back burner”, and then have their project drag on for months. After much frustration, they come to me and are amazed at how quickly things are completed. As a professional, I make your projects the most important items on my to-do list. Finally, would you trust a frien I am quite sure you will know some of these ten on-page elements but there are others you may have thought about but never done anything about. If it is not belie People - You Can't Make Them What They're Not hose people who are visiting your site. Many business people and managers are spending too much time trying to change the underperforming people who work for them. They seem to believe that if they train people - tell them what to do or even threaten them with the sack - then the performance level will go up.The successful manager concentrates on developing the strengths of his team members - not trying to correct their weaknesses. Sometimes you have to manage around a weakness, but you can't make people what they're not. Some years ago I decided to improve my golf by taking some lessons. A friend and I spent some hours with a professional golfer and coach at a local country club. This was really useful to me and I did get better. However my friend Robin hadn't a clue. No matter what the pro told him to do, how to change his stance and his grip, he could hardly hit the ball.If you'd given Robin a hundred lessons and threatened him with a gun, I doubt if he'd ever have completed a round of golf in less than two days. Robin is a successful lawyer and makes a lot of money, however a golfer - he is not.So if you have a sales person on your team who isn't bringing in the sales or a production engineer who isn't making his quota, then you have to make a decision. Is this person not producing because they don't have the ability - because they need more training or - because there's another reason? You can read more about coaching and other reasons for non performance in my book - "How to get more Sales by Motivating your Team" but for the moment it's important to understand that the individual may not be able to do the job. They may tell you they can do the job because they're unwilling to accept defea I am quite sure you will know some of these ten on-page elements but there are others you may have thought about but never done anything about. Essentially a guarantee is simply a document that states to the customer that you standby your product or you will give the customer their money back. Many internet websites have guarantees, but very few in my experience will actually standby the guarantee but I will talk about that more in element number 10.A great idea for a church fundraiser is putting together an annual 'Church Feastival' where good food, carnival games, auctions, and family fun combine for a wonderful fundraising event. The idea is to attract a broad spectrum of the local population to your fundraiser by having something for everybody. The benefit to the church is that many newcomers will form a very positive impression of your ministry and facilities that will in time translate into a larger congregation. And of course, there's all the wonderful things you can do with all the funds raised by your 'Feastival.'Getting started You'll need to arrange for carnival games, inflatable amusements, plenty of good food, live music, tickets, and all the other seemingly endless tasks any large fundraising event requires. Always divide and conquer - split up all the major tasks among your organizing committee and don't overload any one person.Approach local businesses and prominent congregation members for help with signature food items such as barbecue, fish fry, corn on the cob, regional specialties like oysters or Cajun shrimp, etc. Getting these items donated instead of purchased adds tremendously to the bottom line. For live music, work with a booking agent who can line up the right talent for a church fundraiser crowd. You want quality entertainment that won't offend while still encouraging young and old to join in the fun.Fundraising tips There are lots of ways to raise funds with a big event. You can include additional fundraising activities like a bake sale, a cake walk, face painting, craft sales, and various carnival games.Auctions can raise incredible amounts if you have desirable One other element about a guarantee is to make it believable. If it is not belie How To Use eBay to Promote Your Website Part II Many internet websites have guarantees, but very few in my experience will actually standby the guarantee but I will talk about that more in element number 10.Your objective is to build an inventory of products relevant to your website. Once you have that you can start to sell them. You then take advantage of a little used feature of eBay, that not everybody knows about, called your ‘About Me’ page. This is a page that you can design yourself using html. On it, you can say a bit about yourself and what kind of products you sell. However, you cannot sell anything on it, and cannot send visitors directly to a web page that is selling products. The reason for this is that eBay obviously has to protect themselves from being used as an advertising agency, and eBay rules are that any selling done on eBay pages has to be done by eBay. However, you are allowed to place a link to your About Me page on your product Description in your listing. Anybody interested in your product can see your link and click on it. You are also permitted to advertise the link, and direct visitors to your Description box to your About Me page. What you now do is to make an offer on your About Me page along the lines of:“If you are interested in a newsletter giving you more information about the subject of xxxxx, then Click Here for more information.”You then provide a clickable link (remember that your About Me page is in html) so that the visitor can click and be directed to your squeeze page! That is a little known way how to use eBay to promote your website. It does not break eBay rules and is a great way to get traffic to your website from people who would not otherwise have used the internet. That is great traffic to get. One other element about a guarantee is to make it believable. If it is not believable then nobody is going to buy from you. Let me explain … A few years ago I ran a campaign through my training company that a brand new intensive training program we had developed would get you a job within one month or we would hire you ourselves. Now I want to say, to this day, I standby that guarantee, but in reality the campaign was a total flop because nobody actually believed we were serious. In fact what happened was that most of the recruitment agencies actually called us asking us what positions we had available and could they fill them for us. These guys totally missed the point! The bottom line is that if you are going to have a guarantee then it must be believable. If it is not then you have absolutely no hope of making a sale. #2 - Verifiable Testimonials Testimonials are everywhere on the internet. Just about every single sales site has at least one testimonial but most of them are non-verifiable. What I mean by verifiable is that there i
