Thinking about a domain name transfer? Well whatever prescription drug it is you take to calm your nerves, lay in a good supply. This is definitely not a pleasant experience, especially if you’re a computer bumpkin as I. Wait? That’s not fair to me. In some areas I am lacking. But if you’ve never been through this, how could you be expected to know?

Because of a problem with my web hosts technical features, I was forced to upgrade to a more sophisticated system. Barreling ahead in my towering naivete, I chose a host that was rated in the top 10 by an independent reviewer. No problem there. I called and their sales gave me all the details. They told me to call and cancel my present server, and send my future server (Let’s refer to them as P and F from here on) a transfer authorization number. Done.

I thought, well this was easy, I’ll be back up and running by tomorrow. WRONG!

The next day, I received two emails from “F” telling me to send two pieces of information. It read in part ”If you send us this part, then don’t confuse it with this part” etc. I carefully read the instructions and followed orders. Oh well I thought, I’ll back in business tomorrow. Do I have to say it?

I waited for two days thinking “F” was going to send me a link to bring up my new site and get started. No such luck. It seems they had to get name server log-in information from “P”… from me.

So I went back to “P” expecting to waste another 15-20 phone minutes only to get handed back to “F.” But hallelujah, “P” actually delivered the goods and gave me the sacred name server codes. Oooh! such joy.
