7 Top Picks for New Web Resources By eBayIt seems like there are dozens of great, new websites and web resources popping up every day. Some of these new web toys and tools are pretty cool – but it’s tough to keep track of them all. Let me save you the trouble of sorting it all out with a quick review of some of my newest faves:1. Blurb – (www.blurb.com) Cool concept. Blurb lets you create your own, customized book in a variety of sizes or versions (hardcover, soft cover, photo book, text, etc.) You simply import your content into one of their template designs, and follow the process to build your book. Prices start at $12.95 for a small, 40-page book. Perfect for kid projects, cook books, photo essays or your own literary masterpiece!2. Ziggs – (www.ziggs.com) This social “professional” networking site is like MySpace for grownups. Ziggs lets you organize your contacts, friends, to-do lists and e-mails in one, central “hub.” Similar to LinkedIn, but with different features.3. Twitter – (http://twitter.com/) Web citizens are all atwitter about Twitter, the very latest blogging craze that lets you share very brief (usually one line) “twitters” about what you’re doing at this moment. Twitter describes itself as a “global community of friends and strangers” answering one question: “What are you doing right now?”4. Tumblr – (www.tumblr.com) “If blogs are journals,” this site says, “then tumblelogs are scrapbooks. Today’s small businesses are finding new ways to interact with their customers. These interactions can be as simple as providing an interesting bit of how-to knowledge or as complex as developing a way of rapidly identifying a returning customer. The first challenge is to personalize the interaction with each customer. Personalization is the ability to customize the way each staff member does business in accordance with a customer’s wishes or needs. This can be as simple as recognizing a returning visitor or presenting unique information based on a quick evaluation of what may be of interest to the visitor. The goal with personalization is to make the customer feel special: in essence, they are made to feel like they are a “customer of one.” When the visitor feels that a business cares about them at the individual level, they have a tendency to do three things. One, they remember that experience and return. Two, they purchase your products more often and generally at a quantity higher then they normally would have purchased. And three, they will tell their friends about the great service they received at your business. There are four things your staff must do to personalize their customer service. One is to recognize visitors to your business. Recognition is the ability to identify a visitor and qualify their wants and needs. This is a real skill and requires practice, but the act of greeting custo 1. Get Rid Of Excess Inventory You could sell your excess or discontinued products at an online auction. Your unsold inventory is doing you no good sitting around, collecting dust. It's an effective way to make extra income and it won't be a total loss for your business. You could even get lucky and make a profit depending on how much people will bid for your excess inventory. 2. Test Pricing For New Products An easy way to test new product prices is to see what people will bid for them at an online auction. First, sell your product at three different online auctions. Next, calculate the average selling bid from all three auctions and that will be your selling price for your new product. 3. Sell Your Products You can get your product in front of a large audience by selling it at an online auction. Some of the bigger auction sites draw over millions of hits a year. The key to being successful is to sell your product at multiple online auctions at the same time. Let's say you sold one product a day from just one auction site. If you sell your product at one hundred online auction sites that would be one hundred sales a day! 4. Start Your Own Online Auction Drive traffic to your web site by starting your own online auction. People will visit your web site to find bargains and to sell their own products. You will get plenty of repeat visitors from people rebidding on products and adding new products to sell. You could also charge other businesses to advertise on your web site. 5. Lower Your Business Costs You can find lower prices on business supplies and equipment at online auctions. I'm not saying all the time, but before you go pay retail for a new printer try bidding on one first. A company may be selling them at a lower price at an online auction because they have excess inventory.
