Maslow on My Mind: How Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Affects Business and Society
Introduction: Maslow in the Big AppleAbraham Maslow was born in New York in 1908 to poor, uneducated Russian immigrants. He was the oldest of seven children, and therefore pushed by his parents to succeed in education where they had not. Originally studying to be a lawyer, he found it to be of little interest and eventually shifted over to psychology where he excelled. Maslow went on to receive his PhD in Psychology at the University of Wisconsin, under the t

Strategic Fundraising for Startup Technology Companies
Almost every company goes through it, except for the fortunate few. Some people have gone through it multiple times. While never easy, raising money for the second or third time (assuming success the first time!) is a picnic, compared to the first time. The questions that run through an entrepreneur’s mind are nearly endless. Do I even need the money? Is my company fundable, regardless? How much do I need? How much should I try to raise? What’s the best time to
Chickens and Business .. What do they have in common? Bird Flu Pandemic and how it effects the little guy.

While watching the news I noticed that people are starting to wonder about a bird flu pandemic, so I decided to look into it myself. What I found out was a little shall we say scary?

First of all what is a bird flu pandemic?

    Flu Terms Defined

Seasonal (or common) flu is a respiratory illness that can be transmitted person to person. Most people have some immunity, and a vaccine is available.

Avian (or bird) flu is caused by influenza viruses that occur naturally among wild birds. The H5N1 variant is deadly to domestic fowl and can be transmitted from birds to humans. There is no human immunity and no vaccine is available.

Pandemic flu is virulent human flu that causes a global outbreak, or pandemic, of serious illness. Because there is little natural immunity, the disease can spread easily from person to person. Currently, there is no pandemic flu. BUT it is definitely on “The Radar” as they say in the news.

Ok we don't currently have a bird flu pandemic but if we did what is the plan from CDC and other authorities?

I quote below from their “Plan”

Infection control in the community should focus on “social distancing” (3 meter personal space) Keeping sick students, faculty, and workers away while they are infectious.

A Sick Company Needs to Concentrate on its Core Competence
The surgeon operates only one patient at a time. Similarly, a sick company needs to concentrate on its core competence.During the turnaround phase when the company is on the brink of bankruptcy, there are time and resource constraints. The company needs to concentrate all its resources on doing a few major things right. You should have a laser-sharp focus just as a surgeon focuses on only one operative field during surgery. If you are a patient, you will not allow yo

Who's the First Person to Greet Your Customer?
I approached her sliding glass window and stood in back of a gentleman whom I assumed she was helping. After about three minutes, I realized he was waiting for the office manager and she could have acknowledged my presence. I stepped up to the window; she did not say good morning; she did not smile; she just glared at me. I started to speak; she pointed a finger at a clip board with a paper to fill out. I placed the completed sheet in front of her, perhaps expecting a thank you or

Inventory Management - Good Practices And Benefits
In every kind of business, inventory management or management of the inventory consists of a series of processes on the multiple functions with reference to the tracking, handling and managing of goods and materials that are held in stock.Efficiency in effective inventory management will always give a competitive edge to the business, regardless of its nature. fection control in the community should focus on “social distancing” (3 meter personal space) Keeping sick students, faculty, and workers away while they are infectious.

Persons at high risk for complications of influenza should try to avoid public gatherings (e.g., movies, religious services, public meetings) when pandemic influenza is in the community. They should also avoid going to other public areas (e.g., food stores, pharmacies); the use of other persons for shopping or home delivery service is encouraged.

Containment strategies aimed at controlling and slowing the spread of the virus might include measures that affect individuals (e.g., isolation of patients and monitoring their contacts) as well as measures that affect groups or entire communities (e.g., cancellation of public gatherings; implementation of community-wide snow days).

Experience during the 2003 SARS outbreak (Appendix 3) suggests that local officials will face logistic, economic, ethical, legal, social, and psychological challenges in implementing disease control and containment measures during a Pandemic Alert and Pandemic Period.

Hmm I don't know if I like the sounds of “economic and social challenges”. In my circle of friends if they had to take off of work due to “containment strategies” they would take a huge hit in their paycheck. According to what I have found through just a quick search online most people
