Then, from time to time, pick them up a gift such as a magazine, book or CD perhaps about the topic. You need to become genuinely interested in their interests. An even better idea is if you see a TV programme or hear a radio transmission of a programme discussing their hobby just pick up the phone and let them know. People will appreciate this kind of thoughtful thing more than any amount of sweets or chocolates you buy them!
