Other Added - What Makes a Great Working Environment?
Service is a Two-Way Street ful WorkI was having trouble with a set of tires I purchased for my automobile. The ride was rough and unacceptable. The store was willing to exchange the tires or give me a refund. However, it was not definite that the tires were actually the cause of my problem.Paul, the mechanic servicing my cars for the last six years, offered to take a look. His son Mike did a diagnostic check that took an hour and a half. Afterwards, they explained what the real problem was. Then they offered a recommendation and I followed their advice. The problem was resolved with an exchange of tires to a different model. This service from Paul and Mike is excellent customer care. But it gets even better. Paul refused to accept any payment from me for the diagnostic service performed on my automobile. And it gets even better than that! Five days later I received a ‘Thank You!’ card from them both. They thanked me for letting them serve me even though they didn’t charge anything a * Clear and Reasonable Expectations * Frequent and Usable Feedback * Fairness (Consequences = Performance) * Consistency (Predictability) * Maximum Control Possible Over Work Life In my training classes, I often do an exercise wher Virtual Call Centers We know a lot about what a great working environment is.In a virtual call center the organization's representatives are geographically dispersed, rather than situated at workstations in a building. Virtual call center employees may be situated in groups or in a number of smaller centers, or they work from their own homes. This is an attractive arrangement for many employees as the hours are often flexible and there are fewer liabilities. The virtual call center model saves housing and equipment costs and can lead to lower employee turnover rates that tend to be high for physical call centers, but in the end it turns out to beneficial to the organization. In companies whose business is highly seasonal, the virtual model also means that they don't have to maintain large facilities year-round. There is a high demand for virtual call center work and a supply of appropriately skilled labor ready to work in this sector. However, with all the advantages, there are a few barriers to virtual call centers. There is an understandable rel In a great working environment the mission is being accomplished and morale is high. It's the "user" side of the two key leadership objectives: accomplish the mission and care for your people. Most people know exactly what I mean by a great working environment. They may not be able to list characteristics, or point to research, but they've usually experienced one. So have you. Think about a time in your life when it was great to come to work. If you're lucky there are lots of them. If you're really lucky, now is one of those times. What was it like then? I'll bet you were excited about the work you were doing, and you knew that it was appreciated. You almost certainly felt that you were being treated fairly and that you had some control over what you got to do. There's been quite a bit of formal research into the factors that make up a great working environment. Here's a quick summary of what the research tells us make for a great working environment. * Interesting and Meaningful Work In my training classes, I often do an exercise wher Stockbroker Salary le know exactly what I mean by a great working environment. They may not be able to list characteristics, or point to research, but they've usually experienced one. So have you.One of the questions we get frequently is what are the salary or earning possibilities for a stockbroker? That can really be 2 different questions. Firms of all types look for stockbroker trainees or licensed stockbrokers from other companies. For the new trainees, smaller companies will look to pay a training allowance during the training period. This can be anywhere from $250-$750 a week. This "salary" when working for smaller or independent firms may be temporary. The people that own or run these stockbroker firms have a mindset that this is a commission business. Meaning, the clients you get will ultimately make you the money. This is largely true. No Stockbroker got rich on salary. They earn their money by selling stock for commission. The firm will normally pay out 50% or so the the broker. The more clients you have, the more money you can/will make. The larger firms will be more particular who they hire, but will usually offer more guaranteed salary. This means that the company has your full support and you are willing to work towards a common goal - the success of the brand. You need to believe in what you are doing. You also need to know all about the products and services you are selling. If you talk to a potential customer, and they ask an important question, if you do not know the answer, find someone who does. Do not make something up; you will get caught every time. I have been to so many computer stores and ask a really dumb question to test the integrity of the salesperson. They have no idea that I have several degrees in the computer field and help set up networks, so the answers are quite often very revealing. I always admire someone who is not afraid to ask questions to get answers from others. This means the person is IN and wants to genuinely help the customer. This forms a short term but good relationship with the customer. On a longer term There's been quite a bit of formal research into the factors that make up a great working environment. The villagers all drew their water from the river, and used it to cook, and bathe and water their gardens. Life was good.During one particular rainy season, the river flooded. When the water went down, the river had cut itself a new channel, far from the village. The wise village elders conferred and decided to hire someone to supply the village with water. Two villagers stepped forward and asked for the water contract. The village elders decided that a little competition might be a good thing, and issued both villagers a contract. The first villager, John the Wise, took the new water contract and left the village, saying he would return to the village with great amounts of clear water. It would be many weeks before the villagers again saw John the Wise. The other villager, Eli the Strong, seeing that he was the only one with a water contract, bought two shiny new buckets and set to wo * Clear and Reasonable Expectations * Frequent and Usable Feedback * Fairness (Consequences = Performance) * Consistency (Predictability) * Maximum Control Possible Over Work Life In my training classes, I often do an exercise where participants identify the times when they were in a great working environment and what that was like. Interesting and Meaningful Work People want to do work that's interesting and meaningful. They want what they do to be enriching for them and important to others. Different people define interesting in different ways. For some people, it means that they're learning a lot, having lots of personal growth. For others, the most important thing is that there are lots of different situations to deal with or lots of different problems to solve. Sometimes "interesting" is not so much about the work itself as it is about the people you work with. This selffulfillment comes from being part of a team, an elite group, or just a bunch of folks you like working with. It's also important for the work to have value to others. The "others" can be the whole world, or just your customers or the people you work with. Clear and Reasonable
