A friend of mine was a flourishing 21 year old casino rat that seemed like the luckiest person in the world. I mean he couldn’t lose if he tried, every game he played, he one. I once saw him put five thousand dollars on one roulette spin and of course he ended up winning. I thought to myself, this can’t be that hard, even if I have half the luck my buddy has ill be a millionaire by age 25. As you can guess this wasn’t the case. A year after quitting college and trying to make a living playing professional poker, I was dead broke. I had no degree, no money, and absolutely no motivation. There was no way I could crawl back to my parent’s house with nothing to show after I had dropped out of college just to play poker. After 2 years and millions of dollars spent, the project was terminated; the project failed.A business owner is thoroughly responsible for their own financial survival and possibly the financial survival of their employees. Business owners, for the most part, seem to be "risk takers", who really don't easily "go with the flow". They are inventive and somewhat confident, as just having their own business does mandate that they possess these qualities. However, the ability to live with risk is very much a personal issue. Some business owners can live with more risk than others and some can manage the risk better than others.Having the ability to effectively manage risk is imperative for a successful business venture. Therefore business owners need to be able to effectively judge how much risk is "acceptable" and which business ventures are inherently "too risky" and therefore perhaps harmful to the Projects all over the world fail but does anyone ever look as to why? While I don’t know why all projects fail, I do know why this retirement community failed. There were five characteristics as to why this project will not be constructed: Research, Planning, Training, Teamwork, and Ego. Research: Before any project can even begin, research needs to be developed to see if the project is feasible. Is there a market for this type of project? Is this the right location? What is this project going to cost? And what price should we charge the consumer? Researching your competition and learning what they charge their residents and what added benefits are included should also be taken seriously. Any company that believes they have no competitors is already setting themselves up for failure. The research that was done on this retirement community was both inadequate and incomplete. There were five characteristics as to why this project will not be constructed: Research, Planning, Training, Teamwork, and Ego.The Problem: Over the last few months we have published articles with business process improvement ideas from lean, six-sigma and the theory of constraints. Many leading organisations have used them to transform their organisations. Yet many more have tried them and failed to obtain the exponential improvements promised. For all the popularity of various improvement initiatives and management fads that have come and gone, the truth is that in majority of the cases the changes made just do not last. Where lies the differencebetween both types of organisation? Seeing one initiative after another start out with loud bombast and end in a fizzle leads to disenchantment and loss of faith in management and its motives. It is therefore important to pinpoint the reasons for the failure of change initiatives and Research: Before any project can even begin, research needs to be developed to see if the project is feasible. Any company that believes they have no competitors is already setting themselves up for failure.Do you want to start a business on a small scale? Pay as you go and not borrow any money? Basically you want to test the idea out and see if it has potential. Then why do you need a business plan? The most important reason is this. If you cannot flesh out the idea and write it down on a sheet of paper, then it’s not a viable business idea, and you should move on to the next project. Notice I did say a sheet of paper. One sheet. Of course you can use two or three but the basic simple business plan should be just that, simple. You cannot take this plan to the bank and expect to get a loan for your business. In fact you should not even show it to friends or relatives. This plan is for your eyes only. It is to define your business idea. A simple business plan will give you a starting point that will grow wit The research that was done on this retirement community was both inadequate and incomplete. Any company that believes they have no competitors is already setting themselves up for failure.Advertising is an ongoing process that is designed for sustainable results over time. However, when your ad contains a coupon, a special time-limited offer or other inducement to act immediately, you can get measurable results almost at once - provided your offer, timing and media selection were right and you had already established a rapport with your audience. Remember that a single ad does not an advertising program make! Each individual advertising exposure, whatever response it generates, contributes to a residual result that will eventually show up at your bottom line: name recognition, reputation and trust. Establish a method to determine how customers found you and keep track of the results. Consumers do not pay higher prices for “new-ness”, they pay for added benefits.A tremendous amount of time, money, and energy is invested in corporate America teaching customer service reps and other associates how to avoid, reduce, and remedy conflicts with customers.Examine the classes offered by giants in the training industry, and you’ll always seem to find something pertaining to “Dealing With Conflict & Difficult Customers.”It’s an appealing title, to be sure, and robust registrations will support such offerings. But it’s all based on a faulty premise: That the major impediment that needs to be addressed, remedied, overcome, is dealing with angry people. What if customers aren’t angry?Wouldn’t this make most of these efforts misguided, if not utterly wasted?Wouldn’t that mean we’re prescribing the wrong medicine for what ails us, and them?Consi Planning: Planning is HUGE! For the construction of a new retirement community so many details need to be thought through. Every minor detail needs to be thought out and planned for. How many residents will be allowed, what kinds of services and amenities will be provided, what price are consumers willing to pay are just some examples that need to be planned.
