Billboards block out our view of nature. Radio spots interrupt our music. Sidewalk writing, signs on dogs, TVs in our bathroom stalls, trivia questions on potato chips, temporary tattoos on people’s foreheads, magazines with more ads than editorial, reality TV programs that are really season-long branding campaigns, mailboxes full of crap nobody reads, and the list goes on and on and on and on.Just because you’ve paid money for an ad doesn’t mean anyone is going to care. You’ve paid for the space, not the audience. And today’s audience is a hostile one when it comes to advertising.It’s no wonder people are increasingly cynical about advertising. Who can blame them? There are so many ad messages that no sane person could possibly pay attention to them all, let alone process their messages and remember what product they were selling.So most people have learned to tune out the advertising. It’s an automatic response, part of our ingrained fight-or-flight instincts. Then factor in the fact that the two-income family is the rule, not the exception. Career Choices; Are Franchisors Deceptive in Selling Franchises?
Most of us at one time or another have considered starting a business of our own and perhaps considered one of the 3,000 franchises available in the United States. Many say that franchisors are deceptive in their offerings yet as a Board of Director Member of the American Franchisee and Dealers Association, I never found this to be the case. Sure there were cases where a salesman may have over sold a unit, but this was certainly not the franchisors policies.After all a Franchise is like a marriage and starting out on the wrong foot like that makes no sense at all. In studying this over the years I had discovered that the average franchisee who has filed a complaint with the government is 75% at fault and lied in those complaints at least once 85% of the time. The average franchisee lies on their resume, team member or franchise granting applications.The art of deception is a human trait not a franchisor trait, lets get that straight first off. 30% of al US citizens will lie to you to save $1.00 and you know that from coupons in your own coffee shop. Then 30% will lie to save $10.00 and that only leaves 30% who are beyond reproach at and over $100. So the deception comment is annihilated, it does not hold water, strike that comment from your offensive nature if you believe that all franchisors are somehow deceptive. Consider this in 2006.

Throughout our lives we all look back at the choices we’ve made and reflect upon their impact on who we are and what we have become. Some results are easier to measure than others. We can easily measure many of our choices by our wealth, position, and possessions. Others may be more difficult to quantify and might include love, happiness, reputation, and knowledge. The one saving grace for us as human beings is the opportunity to grow and change through the choices we make continues throughout our lives. Even as adults we have the desire and the need to keep learning, shifting, and adapting to the world around us. As we learn from our earliest childhood days, we are in fact in charge of our own destiny, each of us playing the cards of fate on a daily basis through the roads we take. One of the earliest decisions we face, perhaps at a time when we are least prepared is that of our career. At a young age we cast our lot in the direction of some ‘mysterious’ life long ambition. Some are lucky and are able to grasp the brass ring on the first try. Others, like myself may find that a career choice made years ago has turned out to be less gratifying than expected, forcing us to find completion in searching out new trends and acquiring new skills.
