I am literally fed-up with young women and minorities taking offense at ignorant people poking bigoted statements to denigrate, humiliate and insult. PLEASE!!! I beg you as I ask this significant question. When will you and I stop being at the effect of what ignoramuses express, either privately or publically? Get it now once and for all; racism and sexism has nothing at all to do with ‘you.’ Let me say that again! Racism and Sexism has nothing at all to do with ‘you.’ Know that the one speaking the statements are revealing not who you are, but who ‘they’ are. When you know like really and clearly who you are, you cannot be denigrated, humiliated or insulted by the malicious remarks of others.

Growing up I always wanted straight hair like my mama’s. I wanted the fair skin too. But the HAIR! That would have made up for the brown skin. Oh yeah, there were the perms, the wigs, the long hair pieces; anything that made me look like I had straight hair; ‘’good-hair.”

It wasn’t until many, many years later that I totally embraced my ethnicity; my blackness and behold I found a new n-word that gave me my glory. The word was “Nappy.” I loved that word. I loved my nappy hair. It meant freedom. Freedom from hot irons, chemicals, rain, sleet or snow and yes even ‘wind’. It meant identity. At last I could stop trying to ‘be white’ I could be as God made me. Yes nappy was a good thing; an inherent prize that I deserve to claim. I can now freely choose to wear my hair nappy or pressed. I am choosing and not compelled to be approved by a white society.

We experience joy or sadness depending on where we give our attention. Therefore, let no one steal your joy, instead stand inside the truth of your being. Proudly assert your ‘complete goodness’ unmoved by those that would attempt to defame the jewels that you are.

You are always and forever a precious child of God. Who will you listen to? God or a senseless, bigoted, uninformed child of God posing as an idiot? In every moment we get to choose whom we will serve. Will we serve the truth of our being? Or will we react to what is based on a lie? Will you choose truth or error?

You are Victorious. You are Champions. It’s time to celebrate. Why would you allow anyone to crash your party? It’s YOUR Party! Did I actually hear one of the Rutgers young women say that they would be tarnished for life? Please, don’t go there. You are shining stars. Let no one undermine your glory. Actually, no one can.
