The fun factor is a critical component to retaining passion in your business and also a major step in just wanting to get out of bed in the morning. I remember when I was fourteen years old, I worked at a local pub as a dishwasher. I really enjoyed the first few months working there, I had a great boss and an excellent team. Management changes occurred and it stopped being fun. Now, remember that I was fourteen and fourteen year olds love to have fun. I did not enjoy heading to the pub for my shift. At that time I didn’t drive so I rode my bicycle to and from work. I remember trying to ride as slow as I could so it would take longer to get there. No fire in the belly, no passion to even step foot in the place. What happened was that in my brain, I was getting there faster. I eventually left that pub. Reflecting back it was a great lesson on having fun in what you do.

I have seen many business owners create a strict, no fun workplace and their business suffers.
