I am no different. Having worked a variety of jobs since I was 15, and for the last for 24 years in one company, I have become extremely motivated to change my situation due to my employer, no names please, deciding to sell its interests in my State. This shouldn't have been a surprise, as nowadays you don't see much loyalty between employer and employee in either direction, but it was. So, maybe within a year my choices will be to either to move laterally into the buying company, or do something else. If the new company had any promise whatsoever, there would be no rush on my part, but this "deal" stinks to high heaven of lost pension funds.
Enough of that. What to do then? If someone is an independent type, then thoughts of the Internet Marketing Jungle can be enticing and daunting at the same time. Obviously, millions of people are in, or on their way into that medium.
How then to start? To me, the obvious choice was Google Adwords. It looked a little less complicated than other money making methods I knew about. I read everything I could get my hands on before making an ad. Obviously, I didn't read enough. My first few ads were dismal failures. All part of the learning curve, right?
That was just the tip of the iceberg. Once you are on the prowl for a method/product to promote/sell, you start seeing them everywhere! They all seem plausible, (and most still do to me).I tried Yahoo Marketing, GoClick, and others of the same ilk. I started making a few sales here and there, but nothing to live on.
Now, I'm not going to give you the "I accidently cracked the code" spiel that you see a couple times a week, but I am starting to make slow gains that are small steps in the right direction. Here then are my suggestions to those who are just starting out:
1) READ, READ, READ Anything you can to get an idea where you want to start. Don't run out and buy everything you see, (it's tempting I know.) There are unlimited FREE sources on the web when you search a "work at home" type phrase. There are literally thousands of very helpful experienced IMers out there. The absolute best places to learn rapidly in my opinion, are the Internet Marketing Forums. Two good examples are: http://www.conqueryourniche.com/forum/, and http://www.thewarriorforum.com/forum/
The people in these sites are very helpful and especially so to Newbies. Don't be afraid to ask what you may think are stupid questions, there aren't any!
