Here’s a hint, if you’re linear, logical and rational, I’d like to be the first to offer my condolences.Linear thinking has fallen victim to three distinct and sobering factors. Daniel H. Pink, author of A Whole New Mind, describes them as Abundance, Automation and Asia.Abundance is the most interesting of the three because it is emotional in nature. Decade after decade, our standard of living has increased in the U.S. Yet during the same period, our life satisfaction levels have remained just that – level. The need-for-satisfaction void hasn’t been filled, although our garages, attics and storage facilities have. The growth of mini or self-storage industry demonstrates the prosperity today’s consumers face. The country possesses some 1.875 billion square feet of personal storage. One in 11 American households own self-storage space—an increase of some 75 percent from 1995. And notice the popularity Tips For Starting Or Running An Import and Export Business Have you ever noticed that just when you think you may have found a solution to a problem another problem emerges? Then when you fix that problem, you find yourself back to your original issue?
Well perhaps you never had a problem that could be solved in the first place. You may have been dealing with a dilemma or a "polarity" that simply needed to be managed!Trade makes the world go round. The world is a smaller place, thanks to the way in which import and export has changed. These days, almost everything is available either in shops or by order over the internet. It is, of course, possible to get great bargains if you travel and explore but this is time-consuming and expensive unless you buy in bulk and there are language barriers. People like their shopping to be as easy as possible, which is why they don’t mind paying a bit more for their purchases. This is where the importers and exporters come into play.Import and export is a business you can easily do from home. You need very little to start up, just a computer and some common sense. There are great benefits in working from home, as you can imagine. You can choose your own hours and have great flexibility. The first thing to do is to create contacts. This is even easier online than offline because you can talk to anyone in the world from the comfort of your home, using the Internet. You can Dr. Barry Johnson has been working on the Polarity Management" Model and its set of principles since 1975 and this paper has been written to introduce you to some of these concepts. By definition a "problem" is an issue which requires a solution. The goal of a problem is to find a fix to the current situation and move forward to a new reality without being required to ever look back. However, a "polarity" is an issue that needs to be addressed, but the "solution" is not one that can survive independently and will actually still require support from the original issue. Let's look at an extremely basic polarity that we are all managing very well at this precise moment. This is the polarity of respiration that contains within itself 2 basic "problems". The first problem is the human body's need for oxygen. How do we fix this problem? We breathe in. But is that the "solution" to our problem? If it was we would just continue to breathe in and in and in. Once we breathe in though, our bodies transform that oxygen into carbon dioxide which our bodies dont like. So what can we do? We breathe out. Thus losing the oxygen that was the solution to our first problem. In fact, there was never a problem at all (remember a problem should possess a single and final solution), rather we had a polarity that needed to be managed and this was accomplished through breathing in AND out. Let's look at another example that is becoming more and more prominent in the corporate environment, the switch to a team-based workplace and dynamic. Many companies now believe the solution to a majority of their work-based problems is a shift to a more team oriented workplace. Teams are being credited for their ability to: create a synergistic effect, provide a common direction, provide mutual support, appreciate every individual's job, and create a cohesive unit. Customers want brands that are narrow in scope and distinguishable by a single word, the shorter the better. Branding is of high priority for companies of all sizes in today's hyper-competitive market. Even though the concept of branding exists and has been in practice since the 18th century, it still remains a hot topic in the business community. Many facets of the branding process are not well understood by most in the corporate world. A carefully managed and well-implemented brand identity program bears the image of an organization to be communicated to the world.Branding is a demanding and complex process that requires disciplined attention over an extended period of time. Undoubtedly, the logo is a strategically important part of the branding program. As you know if you are a minority or perhaps a homosexual you may actually have a better chance of getting a job in Washington, DC.The problem is if you are not a minority or a homosexual you need to figure out a way to at least look as if you are. If you are a white person it may be hard to look like a minority especially if you have a white person's name. However, there are homosexuals of every race and religion and to therefore your best bet may be to act like a homosexual in order to get a job.In fact, many government agencies are afraid not to hire homosexuals for fear of lawsuits and to make sure that they do not prejudge or discriminate against people due to sexual preference. It is the furniture you have to stick to when you are in the office. It is often assumed that your chair and desk are vital things to your workplace, and it certainly have some role to help you perform your work suitably. Office workers are often heard complaining about the furnitures being nuisance to their work. In such way, this is very important that a office have furnitures designed to comfort the workers. The kind of furnitures that a office requires depends upon the type of company they are, their budget and needs of furnitures to be set at a particular space. A fully computer operated office will need rolling chairs and computer tables. Likewise, a large business firm requires different cabins, rooms and receptions. And furnitures have to be set according to their required and appropriate setting. Some of the basic categories of Office Furniture include office utility items like Let's look at another example that is becoming more and more prominent in the corporate environment, the switch to a team-based workplace and dynamic. However, with teams aren't the following characteristics also created: too much conformity, bland sameness, too many meetings that last too long, the neglect of personal needs, and the organization only rising to the level of the lowest common denominator? Perhaps teams aren't the answer after all, because when you focus on the individual you get: individual creativity and initiative, an entrepreneurial spirit, fewer meetings and individual freedom. But if focusing on the individual is so good, then why was there a perceived problem in the first place? Perhaps because with an individual focus you get: people who feel isolated and left out, no common direction, rewards to only those who hit home runs, and no synergist effect or team support! It’s no secret that career job search times have changed. Especially in the 21st Century marketplace.Just take a look at the dramatic changes that have occurred in the last few years:1. Changing jobs every three years is no longer frowned upon.2. Lifetime employment went out with the dinosaurs.3. Corporate loyalty to workers in terms of job guarantees is dead.4. Employees are now totally responsible for their own careers. It was largely the corporations that ended the traditional employment contract in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Since the notion of “loyalty in exchange for lifetime employment” no longer made bottom line sense to many organizations, hundreds of thousands of workers lost their jobs. So, the new 21st Century program is this:Unless you become pro-active and self-reliant in your career you could be dead in the water.Because of the changes listed above, employers have changed too. Their expectations of job candidates has evolved So what then is the answer? There is in fact no answer to be implemented, rather only a polarity to be managed. In this case the two polarities are the individual and the team. By recognizing these two polarities, organizations can understand and predict the downsides of either pole and strive to maintain a balance between the two positive sides of both poles. Leaders in organizations who understand the strength of managing polarities are more effective because: - they save time and energy not trying to solve problems which are unsolvable- they have a better understanding of the resistance they may face to organizational changes they wish to make- they will be more effective in negotiating with those in opposition to their changes- they may serve as more effective mediators- they will be able to anticipate and minimize problems that occur within a workplace when polarities are not managed well- decision making will improve when leaders learn the power of the "and" and don't rely constantly on either/or decisions Polarities are usually found at the heart of any form of major (or minor) organizational change and there are commonly two competing sides. Dr. Johnson has provided labels for each of these sides. The one side has identified problems with the status quo and has a vision for improvement and change. This side has been labeled as the "Crusaders". The Crusaders are the ones who want to move from the downside of the present pole to the upside of the opposite pole. But standing as
